On top of that, the -1 to hit these is now just always on, rather than only when they advance. The big fliers all get slammed to BS4+ without much changes in their prices, and thats a pretty bad look for them. As someone who loves the Death Korps of Krieg and the Titan Legions, I was very excited to see this book and check out the profiles contained within! Only once all shields are down can you start pumping damage into the Titan itself. Thats seriously spicy, and since neither goes up in cost on that build and some of their guns get marginally better, these are a much more appealing option. It does get cheaper, dropping to 1000pts, but the BATTLESUIT keyword is nowhere to be found on its datasheet, leaving without its primary means of defending itself. In a move for anyone who loves the Mole Launcher too, the squad can now have this as an attachment too rather than having to replace squad members! Finally, in terms of really big mean things, the Hierophant is an actual unit you can kind of take now, down to 850pts instead of its previous, comical 2K price tag. Loyalist Knight Atrapos. The Hornet Pulse Laser has gone down in power a little (sidegrading to S7 but only two shots), but that build is correspondingly much cheaper, dropping to 90pts instead of 115pts. The Grey Knights also get a couple of updated profiles with a renamed Land Raider Banisher, getting a small points discount and a Grey Knight specific Thunderhawk getting a massive discount in line with the new profile elsewhere in the book. The Necrons get a new fortification in the form of the Sentry Pylons these have made the move from the Heavy slot freeing up some precious Heavy choices for more Doomstalkers! Shane: No major rules changes, mostly sweeping points drops. So if you were debating trying it before, it is certainly more tempting now (but still D3 damage, ugh). Imperial Fists converted Carab Culln Leviathan Dreadnought. The laser volley cannon defaults to being a better lascannon three shots at D3+3 damage. Most notably, its aura now has a 6 radius, making it even easier to use it to shield your forces. Also gained the -1D taken Dread ability we have seen the Marine Dreads get, got an extra base attack (reasons), and got 5 points cheaper. Moving over to cool giant monsters, theDimachaeron gets an astounding glow-up. Start Competing: Chaos Space Marines Updated! At least they are 10 points cheaper now for every build except double claws (which stayed the same). The impact was, shall we say, uneven plenty of choices were fine, but there were frequent issues with Forge World units having unintended interactions with newly released rules, and a few choices that were just a bit over-pushed that tended to be over-represented. Solomon Lok never really saw play anyway, but Hector Rex was a popular choice because of how high you could juice him when you added a trait. ability rather than regularWaaagh!, meaning that you need an alternative boss if you want to buff up infantry. I never expected discontinued units to get rules in this book, its an unfortunate truth that we are only ever really going to get current tournament ready rules for models that Games Workshop still produce, however I am a little surprised that some units that you can still buy on the Forge World website do not get rules in this book that said, even with that small caveat there are an absolute truck load of units in this mighty tome! An Astraeus has 2 void shields, so it has a nice little buffer before it starts taking damage. Most notably, the damage of both modes of the flamer has gone down to one, and the other gun has lost AP and the ability to deal MWs to vehicles, and theres really nothing else here thats going to make up for that. In the points section these are listed correctly however. Galatus Dreadnought [CORE]: Down to 9 wounds from 10, but now doesnt degrade. Wings:Its Xenos time, and as the chief elf-liker/army understander, Im taking the wheel from here, starting with Craftworlds. All of these units follow the standard rules for their factions. Notice it also isnt CORE, so maybe no rerolls for you in the future. This book is absolutely stackedwith content, and up front we have to be clear we are not going to go through every single datasheet line by line, as theres far too many for us to possibly do that. People! Out the gate as our first winner we have theHornet, because all the reasons they used to be good have pretty much stayed the same or improved. Cool, but nothing particularly good. You have to agree that is a massive amount of profiles available in the book! Boo. 173.9M . Both Acastus variants saw a massive 100 points drop. 13 - War Machines of the Lost and the Damned, Imperial Armour - Apocalypse I (Second Edition), https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Imperial_Armour_Compendium&oldid=487737, Datasheet entries for two new Factions bespoke to this book . Imperial Armour Compendium 40k Rules Breakdown One of the best parts about the book in our opinion is that the points costs are at the end of each section! Last for this section, theTaunar almost certainly works out as a loser. Nice of you to share! Why are there no pictures of the vehicles. Ultimately, its a stronger unit, but its still a Lord of War. Each void shield is a 3 wound pool that has to be eaten through before the vehicle itself takes any damage, and that pool cant overflow so if a lascannon hits for 6 damage the void shield will absorb 3 damage, and the other 3 will just vanish. Massive thanks to @warhammerofficial for sending us a free review copy of Angron! as well. The new Imperial Armour book has been written with the new books in mind and so costings across the board seem to be a lot better to reflect the power of those units. Out of the other units, theTesseract Ark also got cheaper (especially if you swap the cannots to particle beamers) but its tough to say if it truly ends up as a winner because of the change to Quantum Shielding, which is definitely a major downgrade on it. We were very lucky to receive a copy of Imperial Armour Compendium a little early from Games Workshop to review and share the content with you all! There are two wide-reaching rules for marines. Also the shooting attack on the spear is up to flat 3 damage, from D3 damage. The Lynx also gets a substantial simplification and a cost reduction, and probably ends up more practical out of it. Really onlyStone-Crusher Carnifexeshere they cant be taken as broods any more and went up a bit in cost when they probably didnt need to. There are some changes in weapons as well stormcannon arrays trade 2 shots for an extra 12 range, melta lances gain blast but swap from 2d3 to d6 shots, and the grav-flux bombard doubles in shots and has a more standard grav weapon statline. Weve seen a bit of that thus far in 9th, with hangover 8th Edition rules throwing up a few very powerful choices in the Edition transition, while other units are complete trash at their Chapter Approved costs. This is because it is only 1500pts, leaving you enough leftovers to putsomething in your list to contest objectives, and its statline is a wild ride. Learn how your comment data is processed. Finally, for winners, theKill Tank looks surprisingly pushed at its new price, coming down 100pts for the bursta cannon build and a mighty 155 for the giga-shoota build. On the plus side, almost all of them saw points drops, except the Castigator. The unit cost now is the same regardless of weapons (which makes pistol/buckler 5 points cheaper) AND both weapon load outs got a buff. The second thing to note is that this section includes a single new Stratagem: The SmokescreenStratagem from Codex: Space Marines makes an appearance here, allowing units with the relevant keyword (mostly tanks) to pop smoke when shot at for 1 CP instead of having that ability for free in a more proactive use way. Grey Knights get a variant of the Land Raider which has psycannons on it, for some reason with a different profile than seen on normal ones. I hope this is something we see for other less known chapters in the future, even if it is in White Dwarf articles. of Forge World units that, at the time of printing, are supported. Credit: Jack Hunter. The Inquisition get a couple of updated profiles for Lok and Rex bringing these guys up to date! The Hellcrusher claws have added a sweep mode for clearing out smaller units very helpful and the Scorpion cannon now fires 15 S5 1 damage shots instead of 10 S6 2 damage shots. Now your mileage may vary if you only collect one army, but as I have multiple armies with a wide and varied range of Forge World models across them I much prefer having them all in the one book. The Ares getting a points increase, and being potentially worse vs hordes could be a big deal in the long run. Medusas of all flavours get a more functional boost some go up in cost slightly, but the damage on their big gun increases to d6, obviously very nice and much more scary to be up against when theyre well hidden. If youd asked us to pick units that were at real risk of just getting nuked from orbit in a re-write this would have been high on the list, so it getting to keep doing its thing, only even better, is a huge relief for nid players. The Dreadnoughts really eat shit here. Just like with their Imperial counterparts, we see updated profiles for every variant of Imperial Knight, giving the Chaos Knights access to a large pool of different chassis, these have also been tweaked in regards to points values in line with the Imperial versions! GW noticed that theGargantuan Squiggothhad no business being as cheap as it was, and have substantially hiked the price. Venatari, Dreads, and Aquilon come out looking pretty damn good with the new FW book. We also see some sneak peaks at what weapons may look like in a future Astra Militarum book with a Vanquisher cannon being listed as S16, AP -4, D9 with +1 to hit Vehicles and Monsters I am suddenly very glad i went with rule of cool and armed my Krieg Leman Russ with a Vanquisher cannon! The Imperial Knights get profiles for all Knight variants currently produced by Forge World including some much appreciated points cuts! Such an awesome model and can't wait to paint more! Its tougher, its way meaner on the offence, it starts with its 5++ and grows a 5+++as well if it devours something and only pays an extra 20pts for the privilege. Now yes, that nearly in the previous sentence is a little ominous as there are a couple of strange exceptions. This tank was utter garbage ever since it released, being essentially a bunch of plasma guns that could overheat to have fewer shots. While were going to dig into the highlights and lowlights of individual units below, our overall impression is that there was a significant smoothing over of the entire book. I dont think it really fills a role Craftworldsneed, but it can sit at extreme range and pick up targets pretty decently I guess? Theres a bunch of stuff here that gets decent discounts or modest changes that make them a bit more usable without pushing them over into true winners. If there are units that I think are still worth it, Ill note them below. [2] It also includes : One Regimental Doctrine for the Death Korps of Krieg, designed to work with Codex: Astra Militarum [2] These rules are better than what we used to have, and their costs do sit in a more realistic range than before, but paying 3 CP to take a greater daemon with no exalted abilities is weak sauce. You can find out more about which cookies we are using or switch them off in settings. Moreso than almost any other faction, Chaos Space Marines have leaned on Forge World units to stay competitive in days gone by. Also, if you really want something dead in melee you can choose to swap out Smite forWitch Strike and just absolutely go to town on them. As a bonus, he doesnt have Martial Legacy, so wont be costing you a CP to field. Their Phoenix Lord, Irrylith, is less exciting, mostly just being a damage dealer, but isntawfully statted for what he is, certainly looking more appealing than, say, Fuegan. On to the datasheets themselves we see a number of changes across the profiles, with the biggest change being weapons a lot have had damage or number of attacks added in line with the changes seen in the Space Marine Codex, units have also been updated to reflect any rules changes from that book such as Duty Eternal being added to all Dreadnoughts making them a lot more survivable.
